Friends of DelawareCAN!

February 15, 2018
At the end of last year, DelawareCAN received a grant from the Arsht-Cannon Fund to deepen our work in the Latino community. This grant made it possible to recently bring Erika Gutierrez on our team part-time as an organizer and the coordinator of our new Juntos Delaware advocacy training program for Latino-serving organizations (more on that later!)!

Erika is a powerhouse community organizer and leader. She comes to us from Network Delaware where she also works part-time as their Volunteer Coordinator and Co-Coordinator for the Safe Communities Campaign (working to protect immigrant communities). She is currently a fellow in the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League James H. Gilliam Sr. program and is completing the ” Leadership, Organizing and Action” program out of the Harvard Kennedy School.
She is from Mexico and has worked as a tutor, a server, a librarian assistant, an entrepreneur, a life coach. She is also a mother and is very active at the charter school her kids attend – Las Américas ASPIRA Academy.
She will be heading to D.C. next week with Daniel Walker to be trained on our updated Advocacy 101 curriculum alongside other community organizers in our network.
